Hey Everyone!
There will not be a regular post up today (shock!). This is mainly because I just got back to AIU earlier today from my trip to Hokkaido (Sapporo) for Golden Week, and I'm going to need some time to write up a reasonable synopsis and get myself situated for when classes resume in a few days. I will post up a regular entry this Wednesday and resume my schedule of Sunday and Wednesday updates. For now, know that I had a wonderful time in Sapporo, the weather here is already getting hot (80F today!) and that things are going well. Hope to hear from all of you soon!
My Experiences Traveling and Living in Japan, Spring/Summer 2008
Purpose for this Blog
This is a secondary blog page I decided to set up to focus exclusively on my trip to Japan, planned for the spring/summer of 2008. I'm spending a semester abroad at Akita International University, located in Akita Prefecture, Japan. The title of this blog, "Narrow Road to the Deep North" is in reference to a collection of poems and travel writings with the same name by Matsuo Basho, the famous Japanese haiku poet.

I am back in the US now, which means no more pictures of Japan for the time being. I took a total of 2,048 pictures as well as a few videos. That's a lot of photos, I know, but they will never touch the actual experience of being there. While I hope my pictures will give you a glimpse of Japan and the people I've met, I encourage you to make the trip and see for yourself all that Japan has to offer.

- My name is Jason. I received a BS in Biochemistry at Ithaca College, May 2009. I am attending the University of Pennsylvania to pursue doctoral training in Microbiology/Virology/Parasitology, a program of the Cell and Molecular Biology group within the Biomedical Graduate Studies division of the School of Medicine. This is a blog of my experiences as a PhD student. I am hoping this will be a place for friends and family to keep up to date with my activities, and for any students interested in attending graduate school to get a feel for what one it's like.
